Woldars Honor Parents and Memories with Scholarship
When Paul Woldar 84MBA and Cindy Lohmann Woldar 84MBA decided to find a way to honor the memory of Paul’s parents and to give back to the school where they met and had such great experiences, they knew a one-time donation to a favorite charity would not be enough.
Instead, the couple established the Edwin and Shirley Woldar Family Foundation Scholarship for needy students from New York state. The scholarship is available to both BBA and MBA students.
Paul and Cindy grew up on Long Island, but their paths never crossed. Cindy attended the University of Maryland and Paul went to Boston University; by chance and reputation they both chose Emory for graduate school. They were married in 1986. By then, Paul had followed his dream to Wall Street. He notes that Cindy “passed up several lucrative opportunities in Atlanta” to return to New York, where she pursued her career at Macy’s as a senior executive in personnel.
Today, Paul is managing director of New York sales for Mesirow Financial, and Cindy devotes her time and energy to their three children. The Woldars regularly contribute to health organizations, says Cindy, but, “It made all the sense in the world to give this money to Goizueta Business School.”
“We have a strong connection to Emory,” says Paul. “We had two very good years there; we’ve had a lot of success, and now we can give back.”
They hope their son, Daniel, a high school senior, will follow in their footsteps. “We love Emory,” says Cindy. “We loved the city, we love the school, and we love the passion in the people who are the school. I attribute all this to a very positive experience.”
