This course is designed to strengthen financial understanding by examining how financial data is generated and reported, as well as how it is used for organizational decision making.
Who Should Participate
Finance for the Non-financial Manager is appropriate for leaders with minimal knowledge and/or experience with finance who are currently, or who will be, functioning in non-financial areas and need to enhance their knowledge to be more effective in their role.
Detailed Course Description
This course will enhance your ability to read and evaluate financial statements in depth, be better able to spot trends, study a particular company and its competition from a financial perspective, and ultimately strengthen both individual and organizational decision making. You will learn the important role that financial acumen will play in individual effectiveness in leading your organization.
Day 1: Understanding Financials
- Financial Statements and Reports
- Competitive Benchmarking and Key Financial Ratios
- Viewing Finance as the “recent history” of the organization and what it indicates about the organization.
Day 2: Linking Strategy and Finance
- Industry Business Model and Value Chain
- Linking Strategy to Financial Objectives, Goals, and Outcomes
- Understanding the health of one’s contribution and its relationship to increasing shareholder value
- Financial Decision Making
Practical Application/Exercises
- Analyze industry and company-specific financial data
- Explore linkage between various aspects of a company’s key financial drivers
- Discuss case studies, examining financial elements of diverse companies within and external to a particular industry
After completing Finance for the Non-financial Manager, you will have the ability to
- Understand the language associated with finance and how to read and assess financial statements
