About the Program
Emory's Evening MBA allows individuals the unique opportunity to continue to build on their professional experience while participating in a top-ranked MBA program.
The program is a holistic approach to business study. All students participate in a rigorous academic curriculum, have the opportunity to hone their leadership skills, build their professional network and receive advisement on managing their careers.
The Evening MBA curriculum was recently enhanced to better prepare students for the changing landscape of business. These changes, which launched in Fall 2009, closely align with those implemented in Goizueta's Full-Time MBA program in Fall 2008. They are the result of much research conducted with alumni, current students, faculty and recruiters.
Students will take nine core courses to build their fundamental business knowledge and eight electives, which allow them the opportunity to build a functional depth in certain key business areas. In addition, each student is required to complete four co-curricular modules including:
Management Practice
The new Management Practice course provides our students the opportunity to practice a crucial managerial ability: solving a business problem with ambiguous or less than perfect information at one’s disposal. Held the last two weeks of each core course and team taught by faculty, Management Practice is a vehicle for strengthening the links to practice and provides real integration across each academic discipline.
Professional Communications
The best business leaders are great communicators and consummate professionals. The Professional Communications course provides you with guidance and practice in the "soft" skill areas that recruiters seek out in the MBA candidates they hire.
Taught episodically in sessions scheduled throughout the first year of the Evening MBA program, the Professional Communications course will cover such topics as:
- Presentation skills
- Business writing
- Running effective meetings
- Personal brand (developing your elevator pitch for your job search)
- Effective networking
Leader Development
Leader development at Goizueta is not a series of discrete events, but a coherent process of individual development and growth over time. The programming is based on, and measured against, a competency model that reflects our comprehensive approach to developing leaders. Throughout the program, students participate in a variety of co-curricular learning experiences designed to help them better understand their own strengths and weaknesses, including:
- Coaching
- Assessments
- Experiential activities
International Module
The ability to operate in a global environment is critical to success. All Evening MBA students will be required to complete the International Module. The requirement can be fulfilled by studying abroad at some point during their program through a variety of short courses or by participating in the International Colloquium. Organized by the Evening MBA Program Office, the International Colloquium destination is voted on by the students. The experience includes pre- and post-work, class sessions and visits to companies in the designated country.
