Weekend EMBA AM Class Visit
Friday, June 15, 2012
In November of 2011,Goizueta announced a change to the structure of the Weekend format that is designed to better fit students' needs. Offered on alternating weekends on the Emory campus, our 21-month Weekend Executive MBA ranks as one of the top EMBA programs in the world in Bloomberg Businessweek and nationally in U.S. News and World Report. The consistency of the weekend format makes this program ideal for many busy executives.
In the Weekend course structure you complete at least 17 courses over five consecutive terms and take part in Washington Campus and an eight to 10-day Global Business Practices international experience.
The Weekend format begins with orientation and leadership immersion week in August. Classes are held on campus on alternating Fridays and Saturdays, as well as some Thursdays.

“I wanted something that was highly structured, because I knew it would keep me on track.”
Patricia Arundel, 11EMBA
Industry Market Development Director, Microsoft
Our students take a set schedule of courses that cover everything from management strategy, decision and information analysis, and organizational behavior and leadership, to multinational enterprise strategy, and global macroeconomics.
Weekend EMBA students are required to take at least one elective to satisfy degree requirements. These electives are offered during the second and fifth terms of the program in conjunction with the alternating weekend class schedule. Examples of electives that have recently been offered include Real Estate Management & Finance, Entrepreneurship, and Negotiations. In addition to the Weekend-specific electives, students have access to electives offered in the Evening and Full-Time MBA programs.
There are sessions included to address elements outside of the traditional class structure. These sessions, often known as co-curricular opportunities, allow us to explore further topics of emerging interest and importance as the business landscape changes. Some session topics include:
In addition to our mandatory global travel session, students spend a week at the Washington Campus that provides students with exposure to governmental issues through a business lens.
Washington Campus is a week-long experience where students learn the intricacies of the American political process, with a focus on how that process impacts business. Students meet with members of Congress, lobbyists and regulators as they come to more fully understand the political/business dynamic. For Goizueta EMBAs, the experience will also include time learning about international institutions and their impact on American business. The students will meet with representatives from institutions like the International Monetary Fund, the World Bank, the UN Development Program, and others.
