Letter from 2009 EWG President Laura Balser 94BBA 01MBA
Hello and Happy New Year to everyone!
As the incoming President of Executive Women of Goizueta (EWG), I am excited to be acquiring the leadership responsibilities of such a well-respected organization. EWG reached a milestone in 2008 - celebrating its 5th birthday and holding a phenomenal "Women Empowering Women" conference in October. From when EWG was founded in 2003 by Sarah O'Brien 03EMBA, each board member has helped shape the strategy and direction of EWG.
Board Member Update
The women who have served on the board this past year deserve special recognition for the talent they brought to EWG. I want to thank each one and let you know that they will be rotating off the board with some moving into new roles:
- Carol Romashko 02EMBA - 2008 President and 2009 Past-President
- Renita Anderson 02EMBA - 2008 Past-President
- Sharon Poulos 99EMBA - Outgoing Programming Chair
- Diane White 78BBA - Outgoing Marketing Chair
- Lynn Labuda 09MEMBA - 2008 Fall Conference Chair
The new year also presents me with the opportunity to welcome our new board and remind you of our current board members:
- Nicole Jones 04MBA - Incoming Programming Chair
- Rosalie Collado 05EMBA - Incoming Marketing Chair
- Celena Evans 02MBA - Mentoring Chair
- Nancy Halpern Lesser 99EMBA - Treasurer
- Lynn Labuda 09MEMBA - Incoming Secretary
- Shayna Gaspard 08MBA - 2009 Fall Conference Chair
Communications Update
In 2009, we will need to interact and support each other as we have in the past as well as effectively capture our movements in companies and around the globe. We do live in a global economy and EWG provides the platform in which to share experiences, to learn about recent business trends and research, and motivate one another to be successful women leaders in business.
If you are looking for a new way to stay connected with us, please join our Executive Women of Goizueta group on Facebook and LinkedIn. We plan on using these communication vehicles as a way to provide information on upcoming events and topic discussion. As a result, you will see these e-newsletters less frequently.
We look forward to another year of "Women Empowering Women" and hope to see you at our events this year. If you are interested in volunteering for any of our committees, please send an email to ewg@bus.emory.edu.
Finally, be sure to mark your calendar as we already have our date for the Fall Conference: Friday, October 16 in Atlanta.
Kind regards,
Laura Balser 94BBA 01MBA
2009 EWG President
