Goizueta Offers Numerous Resources for Students Entering the Healthcare Field

Emory University, Emory Healthcare, and the city of Atlanta make Goizueta an outstanding and unique place to earn your MBA and enter the healthcare field.  Students planning to enter the industry complete the general MBA requirements at Goizueta while enriching their experience with healthcare related coursework, directed study, internships, and extra-curricular activities.  This allows students to pursue a more traditional MBA focus and still gain the knowledge and experience desired by healthcare firms.

Electives
Beyond opportunity to register for courses in Emory's Rollins School of Public, the elective courses offered by Goizueta present many opportunities to gain experience in the industry. This spring, the Goizueta Marketing Strategy Consultancy alone will offer three different projects that will provide students a unique opportunity to work directly with healthcare industry leaders in pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, and research.

Independent Studies
Goizueta is also able to leverage its university relationship to provide unprecedented independent study opportunities as well. At Goizueta, students can work directly with business leaders and professors to gain hands-on experience, drive real value, and receive course credit.   Emory Healthcare is Atlanta's largest and most comprehensive healthcare system and Emory University is one of the country's leading research universities.  Recently, students have worked to improve the communication gap between the Operating Rooms and the Sterile Processing Department at Emory Hospital, develop cost-efficiency mechanisms at Wesley Woods (the geriatric arm of Emory University Hospital), and improve access to care at Budd Terrace, the nursing home affiliated with Wesley Woods, by updating the existing "hub and spoke" model in order to make the facility more patient centric and family oriented.

Industry Networking
Many people consider Atlanta to be the public health capitol of the world (the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention borders Emory's campus on the north).  To take advantage of all that Atlanta has to offer, The Goizueta Healthcare Association arranges for students to visit the CDC, local hospitals, and meet with companies and professionals in the field.  Its flagship event is the Healthcare Forum held in the spring that brings healthcare leaders from around the country to campus to meet with students and faculty in an intimate setting and discuss the issues currently facing the industry.

By pairing a rigorous MBA academic curriculum with a variety of healthcare opportunities, Goizueta students acquire skill-sets that are valued and respected by companies.  Every year a large portion of Goizueta's students take internships and jobs with healthcare companies in Atlanta and all over the world.  This summer nearly 15 percent of the class of 2009 used their education to secure internships at firms in the provider, payer, pharmaceutical and health information technology space.  The community and academics of Goizueta matched with the resources of Emory University and Atlanta make this a truly distinctive place to launch your career in healthcare.
