Important Application Tips for Evening MBA Applicants

First impressions are important, in person and on paper, so here are a few suggestions for adding polish to your Emory Evening MBA application:

Online Application Form

• Work Experience:
  Briefly describe your responsibilities; avoid overuse of industry specific jargon or acronyms. Your resume and essays are the best place to go into greater detail.
  
• Extra-curricular Activities:
  Tell us how you spend your time outside of work i.e. community service, leadership roles in professional organizations, hobbies or passions. Include activities from your undergraduate years which were significant and substantive.
  
• Application Deadlines:
  Be mindful of the application deadlines and plan accordingly.

Essays

• Help us get to know you better and see how you stand out from the applicant pool. Use concrete examples and thorough descriptions.
  
• Proofread multiple times and ask someone else read it as well.
  
• Read the essays aloud and listen to how well it flows.
  
• Always make sure to answer the question!

Recommendation Letters

• Choose your two professional recommenders well, remember that closeness trumps rank.
  
• The best recommendations speak highly of the applicant and provide specific examples to back up their claims.
  
• Help your recommender by providing them with information on Emory's program and deadlines. Consider writing a letter to explain your reasons for pursuing an MBA and what qualities make you competitive for admission.

Interview

• Bring your up-to-date resume and review it beforehand. Be prepared to tell the story of your career progression and professional accomplishments.
  
• Remember the basics: smile, turn your cell phone off and put it away, write down any questions you would like to ask.
  
• Try to relax! The Admissions Interview is a conversation, not an interrogation.

GMAT

• Allow enough time to take the test twice if necessary.
