Remembering Dr. Arthur ‘Art’ Dietz

To the Goizueta Community:

It is with deep sadness that I extend condolences to the family of Dr. Arthur ‘Art’ Dietz, who passed this week.

Art was director of the MBA program for twenty-five years then became chairman of the finance department, where he ended his teaching career as the Mills B. Lane Professor of Finance and Banking.

Although he retired from Emory in 1988, he visited campus for many years and is fondly remembered by his former colleagues.  Art was recruited in 1954 from Wesleyan (and a previous stint at Princeton) to start the business school's MBA program.

In retirement, Art founded Strategic Portfolio Management, a company that managed investment portfolios for individuals in forty-five states. After his partner passed away, Art closed the business, but continued to manage the investments of a few long-time Georgia clients.

A few years, ago the Atlanta Society of Financial Analysts, Inc. (ASFA) honored Art with a lifetime achievement award. The organization recognized him for being distinguished as an educator, as an investment funds manager, and for his lifelong commitment to service.

We will miss Art.  May God bless his wife, Margie Lee, and their family.
