Vice Dean Maryam Alavi


"Maryam Alavi is vice dean and the John M. and Lucy Cook Professor of Information Strategy at Goizueta Business School. Prior to being named vice dean, she served as interim dean.

A member of the Goizueta faculty since 2000, Alavi has extensive experience in higher education. Before joining Emory, she served as the Orkand Professor of Information Systems and Chairperson of the Information Systems area at the University of Maryland at College Park. Today, Alavi teaches in the Modular Executive MBA program at Goizueta and focuses her research on strategic information systems. Alavi has authored and co-authored 70 papers on topics of strategic information systems management, technology mediated learning and knowledge management.

Before her appointment as vice dean, Alavi served as Goizueta's associate dean for faculty and research, where she focused on recruiting leading faculty and promoting the school's research. She is also the founding director of Goizueta's online business publication, Knowledge@Emory, a partnership with the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.
